My friend Michael did this interview with Rumer (her album “Seasons of My Soul,” which went platinum since debuting over a year ago in the UK, is being released in the US next week). VERY SADLY, her show at the Bluebird fell through because she has so little presence here. Now she’s playing at Larimer, and YOU SHOULD GO! It’ll be cheap and EARLY on Sunday, so you have absolutely no excuse to not experience this wonderful singer.

This is Kalyn Heffernan. She is 24 years old, weighs 53 pounds, and measures three feet, six inches tall. She’s light enough to carry, compact enough to hide under a winter coat, and is sometimes mistaken for a child. But Kalyn, who has the brittle-bone disability osteogenesis imperfecta, is hardly innocent, precious, or inconspicuous: The Colorado native dabbles in graffiti, cusses gloriously, and has a septum piercing. She raps, scribbles rhymes, and has been known to cover the viral YouTube video “My Vagina Ain’t Handicapped.” If you ask—and even if you don’t—she’ll eagerly lift her shirt to show off the words “CRIP LIFE” inked on her stomach, an homage to Tupac Shakur’s THUG LIFE tattoo.

Kalyn is the founding member of Wheelchair Sports Camp, a “krip-hop” group from Denver. Read more about the pint-sized frontwoman in this week’s cover story.

I could watch these videos a million times in a row. I’m so fascinated by how easily the auditioning characters in this premise call up unique ways to approach these fake cliches that the “casting directors” are throwing at them. Watch all of the “Uncastable” videos for the laffs, but if you’re an animator, marvel at the consistently awesome acting.
